Bring on the wedding fayres!

So, you're engaged! Can I get a woop woop?! Time to start planning and it's off to the wedding fayre you go! Grab your besties, family and whoever else and go forth and gather leaflets, cake samples and whatever else is on offer!

I'm seeing a lot lately of people saying they aren't sure they should attend wedding fayres because either they feel too old (I didn't even think that was a thing?!), they aren't getting married for a while or they don't know what they want. I call b******t on all those reasons!

Where to start? There are a lot of wedding fayres happening all the time, some are free and some you have to pay for. The point of a wedding fayre is so that suppliers can show you who they are and what they do, couples can get ideas of things they may want, ask questions and generally be nosy and venues can show themselves off. It's a great place for everyone to mingle!

So the thought of attending is a bit daunting? Want to know a secret? As a supplier I get really nervous attending wedding fayres...You don't want to sound like you don't know what you're talking about, what if someone asks you a question you don't know the answer to or what if someone wants something there and then and you want to have time to think about it?..These apply both ways!

I'd love to say I know everything there is to know about flowers but I don't, I never stop learning! I also pride myself on coming up with quirky alternatives for people but at some point someone will ask me for something completely random and I won't know the answer, but as a supplier I can go away and research and it's exactly the same for couples...no idea how many guests you're having? That's fine, you can go away and work it out! Nothing needs to be decided there and then.

Is someone giving you the hard sell? Not getting a good vibe from them? The relationship between couples and suppliers is a really important one. Your wedding is a really big deal to you and so you should use suppliers you feel comfortable and happy to use not ones that shower you with leaflets..you can just walk away. And it's the same for some suppliers. As a creative there are people you gel with and people you don't. If I don't think I can do a job justice I am very comfortable with the fact I can tell a client that because I want both parties to be happy..Flowers are just like the dress and suit...you pick one that you love and fits you!

And finally...THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION! Unless you get married on a regular basis the chance of you knowing the ins and outs of how to organise a wedding are slim! So if you don't understand the different between a handtied and a shower bouquet..just ask!

To help you on your way I've created a handy hint sheet about talking to a florist about your wedding flowers and things you may want to consider!

Now...go forth, eat all of the cake, get all the feebies and have fun!
